Job Purpose:

The IIE (Pty) Ltd is the registered provider of higher education which is offered through the following educational brands: IIE Vega, IIE Varsity College, IIE Rosebank College and IIE MSA. The Independent Institute of Education€™s Central Academic Team (CAT) is responsible for the academic leadership and governance of the work done at the brands while each brand is managed as a business entity by its own divisional management team.
The IIE (Pty) Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of AdvTech Ltd which is listed on the JSE.
This position falls within the central IIE academic team. The IIE, as the registered provider has ultimate responsibility for registration, curriculum, delivery, assessment and certification of all education on these sites as well as for relationships with external partners particularly in the regulatory and accreditation arena.
The IIE currently operates through six faculties and has established academic operations, compliance and academic leadership infrastructure and processes.

To read and edit academic material to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar and syntax and ensure that all such material is in the applicable templates and appropriately formatted.

Key Performance Area:

€¢ To work within IIE systems and processes relating to the editing process.
€¢ To make sure adherence is given to using the correct IIE templates
€¢ To consider instruction and request from authors and edit and format the academic documents, including language, grammar, accessibility for various readers and formatting.
€¢ To ensure that referencing and copyright laws are applied correctly.
€¢ To consult with and advise authors on editorial related issues of concern and to give advice and guidance where need be.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
€¢ Builds and maintains stakeholder relationships, especially with Heads of Programme.
€¢ Ensures and enables clear and open communication at all times.
€¢ Escalation of queries to Senior Editor when necessary.

Coaching
€¢ Coaches/Mentors and trains new, freelance, fixed term and permanent Editors.
€¢ Provides technical training for systems, software and templates.
€¢ Explains the different language and styles used.
€¢ Explains the editing procedures. (Sequence of events)
€¢ Provides Editing Training manual.
€¢ Work hand-in-hand on 1st few documents with new editors.
€¢ Proofreads work of new editors

Qualifications

Bachelor€™s degree in English, Journalism, Media or related field.

Experience

2 Years experience in journalism, sub-editing or copy editing preferred.
